Seo Dong-Jin Kaywon University of Art & Design, Korea
Seo is a professor of Intermedia Art at Kaywon University of Art and Design. He is a member of the editorial committee for Marxism 21, Culture/Science, and Economy and Society. He also served as an editor for diverse journals, and in particular, as an editor in chief for Word & Bow and a visual arts journal Eye. He is interested in critical analysis of the relation between the capitalist economy and culture, and in recent years, published a wide range of writings on visual arts and performance. He has also consistently held seminars for the Marxist criticism about the new intellectual tendency, such as new materialism and affect theory. He is the author of books, including Post-Contemporaneity: Memories, Experiences, and Images (Hyunsil Book, 2018), The Nap of Dialectic: Hostility and Politics (Courier, 2014), Will to Freedom, Will to Self-Improvement (Dolbegae, 2009), and Design Melancholia (Hyunsil Book, 2009). He co-authored The Reader for Non-Alignment (Hyunsil Book, 2020), Scoring Space (Hyunsil Book, 2019), Shared Rhythm, Shared Body (Ilmin Museum of Art, 2018), Red, Blue and Yellow—Im Heung-soon (Hyunsil Book, 2018), and Access to Contemporary Korean Art 1980-2010 (Forum A, 2018). He is also working as a co-curator for the upcoming exhibition “Non-Aligned Movement: from Bandung to Gwangju” (working title) in the Asia Culture Center in 2020.
